3 Characteristics of Diamond
2018-08-24

Diamond is the hardest substance in nature as we all know, and it has been widely in industry. The use of diamond tools can greatly improve productivity and product quality as well as create conditions for automatic production processes, and solve some special and difficult processing problems. At present, there are 3  characteristics of diamond. Let’s talk about it.

High Hardness

Diamond is the hardest substance in nature, which makes diamond have the ability to process all kinds of minerals and non-metallic materials effectively.

High Strength

In addition to high hardness, diamond also has a high compressive strength. Its compressive strength depends on the type of diamond, crystal shape, crystal surface, etc. But its strength usually between 3000-9000 MPA, about 3.5 times the traditional abrasive corundum; 80-15MPA marble compressive strength 40-60 times; 170-220MPA granite compressive strength 20-40 times. This is another important reason why diamond is superior to other traditional abrasives in cutting, grinding ability and life.

High Wear Resistance

As known, diamond is the best abrasive material with the highest wear resistance and the strongest grinding ability. The wear resistance of diamond is 4 times of silicon carbide, 10 times t of corundum and 50 times of quartz, the main component of hard stone. This makes the longevity of diamond tools much longer than other abrasive tools. For example, some diamond tools have ten times, dozens of times or even hundred times longer than similar silicon carbide tools. With the low processing costs, coupled with diamond cutting ability, diamond has become an ideal new abrasive material with its longer life.
