4 Basic Polished Concrete Finishes I

Are you looking for a durable, versatile and beautiful flooring material for your home or office? Have you considered concrete? Polished concrete floor wouldn’t disappoint.

Polished concrete is very different from your basic raw concrete. It is a very time-consuming and skilled process to remove the aggressive material from floor surface in order to receive the intended result.

Concrete is versatile, you could add color or decorative additives during the polishing process.

Here I would like to introduce four basic polished concrete finishes.

Silver polished concrete floor

If you want to achieve a silver polished concrete floor, you should deeply grind into the concrete by large metallic disk. The first grind is deepest, and you can decide how much sand, gravel and aggregate you want to expose. After the first grind, you can use the progressively smaller diamond tools or polishing pads to remove the scratches. The silver finish is left with a matte or satin look.

Gold polished concrete floor

If you like the smooth polished concrete look, you should consider the gold finish. Unlike the silver finish, the first deep grind is avoided because it is no need to expose the aggregate. Normally, you just need to grinding away 1mm of the concrete surface and exposing the underlying, harder concrete in the form of fine material. The gold finish gives you a highly reflective surface.
