How to Clean a Terrazzo Floor
2018-08-09

Terrazzo floors are made out of a combination of marble chips mixed with concrete. They are durable and easy to clean.

It is important to note that it will take several days or weeks for cement to cure which floor may change color or have a mottled appearance.

Over time, it is better to keep floor be cleaned properly. Terrazzo floors are easy to clean with a few simple steps:

1. Sweep the floor thoroughly, starting at one corner of the room and working your way across to remove loose dirt, crumbs, and other debris. Use synthetic fiber pad to polish (do not use steel velvet).

2. Rinse the floor thoroughly with clean water, or use a wet vacuum or squeegee to remove the dirty water. It is important that the entire floor surface remain wet during this time, otherwise the loose dirt will simply dry back onto the floor.

3. Polish the terrazzo floor with a synthetic polishing agent. With this technique, the floor can be used without wax for several years, and the wax can be extended to three years or longer. If the surface of the terrazzo is badly damaged, the wax will be resealed after wax.

4. Dry the floor with a towel.

5. Note:

Do not use wire pads because it may damage the floor or make the floor fade;

Do not use alkaline detergent because it may corrode the ground and cause peeling.

If the floor is not waxed thoroughly and properly, the disinfectant with below PH 6.5 can also damage the terrazzo.
