-- Selecting the right diamond tools

As a contractor, you have to know that harder bonded metal tool is used on soft concrete floors and abrasive coverings. Instead, softer bond is used on hard concrete floors and abrasive coverings.

Concrete grinding relies on diamonds on the grinding discs. Diamonds are the hardest material that is used to wear away various floor coverings. Our DTS diamonds manufacture all kinds of diamond tools and help contractors to determine which diamond tools is the best for the restore job and ensure they work efficiently.

Set up the grinding disc, you should know the differences between using a half set or a full set.

A half set of diamonds means diamond tools are placed at three alternating positions on the diamond holder disc. Usually, a grinder at least has three holder discs. It means that at least nine diamond tools should be placed on a grinder when grinding or polishing the concrete floor. A half set puts more weight per square inch on the diamond tooling, making it grind more aggressively on hard floors. However, it does not completely flatten the floor.

With a full set, diamond tools are placed at each of six positions on the diamond holder disc. It is easy to achieve a desired flat floor when use a full set of diamond. It grinds the high areas and misses the low spots, resulting in a smooth surface with no undulations.

Generally speaking, diamond tools are divide into metal bonded and resin bonded. Metal bond for rough grinding, resin bond for polishing. With the development of technology, a PCD scraping tool is to be produced. The PCD tool is often used to remove heavy coatings on the concrete surface.

Now that a grinder and diamond tools have been chosen, it is time to start grinding. Concrete grinding is the simplest and most efficient method for leveling and restoring a concrete floor. Once you have removed the old surface material and you have a network of fine scratches all over the surface of the concrete, that concrete is ready for polishing or for an overlay. This focus on surface prep will give your restored concrete floor the best chance for success.
