The Steps of Making a Self-leveling Floor
2021-07-27

Self-leveling floor is an environmentally friendly, beautiful, and fast construction floor material. It is widely used in cushions and surface layers of various floors. The process of making a self-leveling floor is briefly introduced below.

1. Grassroots dust removal and repair treatment

Clean up debris and dust on the floor, repair holes and cracks, knock out the hollow parts and repair them.

2. Base brush interface agent

The purpose is to seal the base, prevent the self-leveling mortar from losing water, enhance the bonding strength between the base and the self-leveling, prevent the generation of bubbles and improve the fluidity. The interface agent is generally painted on both sides, after the interface agent is completely dried (about 5 hours), then proceed to the next process.

3. Self-leveling cement mixing

Weigh the water and place it in a clean mixing bucket and slowly add the self-leveling material, stirring with an electric mixer while placing it. Continue to stir evenly about 5 minutes until the slurry is uniform and has good flow properties.

4. Self-leveling cement pouring

Pour the mixed slurry directly to the base surface to ensure that the cast-in-situ strip and the previous strip can naturally blend together. The poured strip-shaped self-leveling material should reach the design thickness. If the design thickness of the self-leveling construction is less than or equal to 4mm, a special scraper for self-leveling must be used to assist in leveling.

5.Self-leveling cement defoaming

Self-leveling cement is generally added with defoamer, but air will be brought in during the mixing process. Therefore, before self-leveling and initial setting, you need to wear spikes to walk into the self-leveling floor and quickly roll on the poured self-leveling with a deflation roller on the floor, the air brought in during mixing is discharged to avoid bubbles, hemp surface and the height difference between strip and the strip interface.

6.Grinding and polishing of self-leveling

If it is the surface layer, grinding and polishing are required, generally after 7 days of self-leveling curing. Use a grinder to grind off the self-leveling surface to facilitate the penetration of the curing agent. The grit of resin bond polishing pads ranges from coarse to fine, generally starting from 100 grit to 3000 grit which depends on the gloss you need.
