Types and Characteristics of Concrete
2018-11-13

Concrete has the advantages of strong, economic, structural performance, plasticity, waterproof performance and suitable for industrial production. It has strong structural and material performance. As a popular material, it has been widely used by virtue of its excellent architectural physical characteristics. While concrete is widely used, it is also considered as a monotonous and indifferent building material. But if the design and construction can be well combined, concrete can also be called a rich and colorful material.

Types of concrete

Concrete is a kind of composite material which is made up of inorganic cementitious materials (such as lime, gypsum, cement, etc.) and water or organic cementitious materials (such as asphalt, resin, etc.) and cured and hardened with aggregate in a certain proportion. According to aggregate classification, concrete can be divided into five types: heavy concrete, ordinary concrete, light aggregate concrete, macroporous concrete and fine granular concrete.

Characteristics of concrete

Concrete has the following characteristics in its application:

  1. Easy molding. It can be molded into various shapes and sizes of components or structures.

  2. Lower price, simple material and the construction is convenient. The concrete has the characteristics of high strength, good durability, low maintenance costs.

  3. Low tensile strength. It is necessary to cooperate with the steel bar with high tensile strength to improve the crack resistance.

  4. Concrete is heavy. Lightweight aggregate should be used to reduce its weight. Meanwhile, it needs a certain hardening time and a long construction period.

  5. Better thermal performance.
