What is the Benefits of Green Concrete
2018-12-20

Nowadays, it is so important to take the environment and health into consideration when it comes to constructing homes, and there are countless benefits from doing so.

Increasingly, concrete is being recognized for its strong environmental benefits in support of creative and effective sustainable development. Green concrete is one of the latest eco-friendly construction material. It is made from a combination of an inorganic polymer and 25 to 100 percent industrial waste. Here let’s talk about the benefits of using green concrete.

  1. Longer lasting

Green concrete gains strength faster and has a lower rate of shrinkage than concrete made only from Portland Cement. Buildings that use green concrete are fireproof. Because it can withstand temperatures of up to 2400 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale. Besides, the green concrete also has a stronger corrosion resistance which has an important effect on environmental pollution. Base on the above factors, a green concrete construction will last much longer than one made with ordinary concrete, such as ancient Roman structures, Ukrainian buildings. If buildings aren’t constantly to be rebuilt, fewer construction materials are needed and the impact to environment is reduced.

  2. Requires less energy

Green Concrete is mostly made from fly ash (20-100%). Fly ash is byproduct of coal combustion and is gathered from the chimneys of industrial plants that use coal as a power source. A large increase in the use of green concrete in construction will provide a way to use up fly ash and reduce industrial pollution. On the one hand, green concrete can be created by less energy for fly ash already exists as a byproduct of another industrial process. On the other hand, green concrete also reduces energy consumption by its temperature changes which heating and cooling more efficiently.

  3. Reduce carbon dioxide emission

Green concrete is an environment friendly concrete, it will reduce CO2 emissions. Green concrete does not require as much heat during its production, releasing up to 80% less carbon dioxide.

  4. Beneficial for contractors

From a commercial standpoint, green concrete tends to be more beneficial for contractors than traditional concrete. This is because green concrete does not require extra tools or equipment and eliminates the risk of cement burns. Also, since green concrete is self-drying, a coating can be applied as early as 72-96 hours. This allows contractors to save time and prevent the loss of other projects. Further, green concrete has an enhanced curing rate and strengthens very quickly, facilitating faster vertical construction, thus reducing construction time and increasing the rate of return when it comes to industrial assets.
