Factors to Consider When Choosing Abrasives’ Hardness
2022-09-06

1. Hard abrasives are used when processing soft materials, otherwise soft abrasives are used, but soft abrasives are also used when grinding extremely soft and tough materials.

2. When grinding, the contact area between the workpiece and the abrasive tool is large, and the hardness of the grinding wheel should be selected lower. In forming grinding, in order to ensure the accuracy of the workpiece geometry, the hardness can be appropriately selected to be higher.

3. During the grinding process, if the rotational speed of the abrasive tool is high, the hardness should be lower, the rotational speed of the workpiece should be high, and the hardness should be appropriately higher, and the hardness of dry grinding should be 1-2 grades softer than that of wet grinding.

Binding agent

The main purpose of the bonding agent is to consolidate the abrasive particles together, so that they have a certain shape and strength, so as to facilitate the effective grinding work. There are three commonly used binders, ceramic, resin and rubber.

Abrasives made of resin bond have high strength and elasticity, and are widely used in metal and non-metallic materials, high-speed grinding, rough grinding, profile grinding, ultra-fine grinding, cutting and grooving.
